AIMS Week

AIMS week has arrived. This is a big week, and it is very important that your child is in class, on time, every day. Please do not plan any trips, doctor’s appointments, etc. For a list of test taking tips, see below.

Canned Food Drive/Helicopter

This week our school is hosting a canned food drive. You may bring in cans (or each dollar is equivalent to one can). The class that donates the most will be rewarded with a special presentation. A helicopter crew will be landing at our school and talking with the winning class.

Test Taking Tips for Kids

Test taking is an important part of your education. The information we get from your test scores help us see how much you've learned, so it's important to always do your best. Try these tips to help you succeed:

1. Make sure you get a good night's sleep. This will help you focus during the test, 
2. Eat a good breakfast. You'll have more energy and won't be distracted by a growling stomach. 
3. Read the directions and questions in your test slowly and carefully. If you're not sure, what they're asking you to do, read again.
4. Skip problems you have trouble with, but make sure you mark them to go back and answer when you have finished answering the other test questions. 
5. Read all of your answer options and choose the "best answer"; don't choose the first answer that seems reasonable - read all the choices to find the best one. 
6. If you aren't sure about an answer, guess wisely - eliminate as many answers as possible. 
7. Check your work when you think you're done.

United States Book Due

The United States Books are due this Wednesday, March 6^th. Students may take them home to finish as homework if needed. This is a big part of their Social Studies grade!

End of 3rd Quarter

Friday, March 15 is the last day of the 3^rd Quarter. It is a half day with no lunch/no after-school. Report cards will go home with students on this day.

Spring Break

Dr. Seuss’ Birthday

Students are allowed to celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday on Friday, March 1^st by wearing a Dr. Seuss shirt and crazy socks.

LPA Run/Walk/Ride for Education

We will have a run/walk/ride for LPA on March 16^th at Reid Park. Check-in is at 9:45 am. This is a major fundraiser for the year. Please come support our school!

Grandparents Day

This Wednesday, February 20^th, is Grandparents day. For this day, we would like to have all participating grandparents bring in a toy or item from their childhood to share with the class. Please make sure they are aware of this. Thank you!

Rodeo Break

There will be no school on Thursday and Friday, February 21^st and 22^nd to celebrate Rodeo Weekend.

Rodeo Dress

On Wednesday, February 20^th, students are allowed to wear Rodeo Apparel. This includes jeans, cowboy hats and boots, etc. Toy guns, spurs, etc are not permitted.

Progress Reports

Last Friday, February 8^th, marked the mid quarter. This was the last day they can turn work in before Progress Reports go home today. Please be sure to read and sign it before returning it to school with your child.

Valentine’s Day Parties/Dress Down

Thursday is Valentines Day. We will give students time to pass out Valentines in class. If your student is bringing Valentines, please make sure they bring enough for everyone in the class.

 

It is also a special dress down day. One of our LPA students has recently been diagnosed with lukemia. We are raising money to help her family with their finances. Donations for dress down start at $1 and up.
